�This Indenture made the third [3rd] day of November in the twenty seventh [27th] year of
the Reign of our sovereign Lord George the third [III] by the grace of God of Great Britain
France and Ireland King Defender of the faith and so forth and in the year of our Lord one
thousand seven hundred and eighty six [1786]
Between Francis Saint John Hunt of Reepham in the County of Norfolk Yeoman One of the
Sons and Heirs at Law of James Hunt late of Reepham aforesaid and Hannah his wife both
deceased of the one part James Hunt of Lyng in the said County of Norfolk Grocer and
Thomas Hunt of Stalham in the said County of Norfolk Surgeon Also Sons and Heirs at
Law of the said James Hunt and Hannah his Wife both deceased of the other part
Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of five [5] shillings of good and lawful
money of Great Britain by the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt well and
truly in hand paid to the said Francis Saint John Hunt at or before the sealing and delivery of
these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and for divers other good causes
and considerations moving
We the said Francis Saint John Hunt Wath granted bargained and sold and by these
presents Doth grant bargain and sell unto the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas
Hunt their Executors and Administrators all that undivided share or third [3rd] part of him
the said Francis Saint John Hunt of and in all that Messuage or Tenement and Farm together
with the Barns Stables and other Houses Outhouses Edifices and Buildings Yards Gardens
Orchards Closes and Inclosures pieces and parcels of Land Meadow and pasture ground
Feedings Commons Rights Priviledges and appurtenances whatsoever thereunto belonging
situate lying and being in Reepham aforesaid and in Hackford Kerdestone [Kerdiston] Sall
[Salle] and Towns adjoining in the said County of Norfolk and now are or late were in the
use possession or occupation of Elizabeth Plane her assigns or undertenants
And also all that undivided third [3rd] part or share of him the said Francis Saint John Hunt
of and in a certain Cottage situate in Reepham aforesaid or in some Town near adjoining in
the occupation of Richard Frankland
And also all that undivided third [3rd] part or share of him the said Francis Saint John Hunt
of and in a certain piece of Land and Inclosure called Bowles’s Pightle lying in Reepham
and Hackford aforesaid and now in the occupation of Samuel Chambers
All which premises descended and came to the said Francis Saint John Hunt as one of the
Sons and Heirs at Law of the said James Hunt and Hannah his Wife both deceased And the
Reversion and Reversions Remainder and Remainders thereof
To have and to hold the said Messuages Lands Tenements Grounds and Singular other the
Hereditaments and premises herein and hereby granted bargained and sold or meant
mentioned or intended so to be with their and every of their Rights Members and
appurtenances unto the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Executors and
Administrators from the Day next before the Day of the date hereof for and during the full
end and term of one whole year from thence next ensuing and fully to be compleat and
ended
�Yielding and Paying therefore unto the said Francis Saint John Hunt his heirs and Assigns
the Rent or farm of one peppercorn on the last day of the said Term if the same shall be
lawfully be demanded
To the intent and purpose that by Virtue of these presents and by force of the Statute made
for transferring uses into possession they the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas
Hunt may be in the actual possession of all and singular the said Hereditaments and
Premises above bargained and sold with their and every of their appurtenances and may be
thereby enables to accept and take a Grant and Release of the Reversion Fee Simple and
Inheritance thereof so them the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt and their
Heirs
To and for such Uses Behoofs Intents and Purposes and under and subject to such powers
provisoes conditions limittations and agreements as shall be thereof limitted expressed or
declared of and concerning the same in an Indenture of Release of two parts intended to
bear date the day next after the Day of the Date hereof and expressed to be made between
the said Francis Saint John Hunt of the one part the said James Hunt party hereto and
Thomas Hunt of the other part

Day and year first above written

weekly sum of seven [7] shillings of like lawful money to be paid to the said Francis Saint
John Hunt and his assigns for and during the term of his natural Life by the said James Hunt
party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heir Executors and Administrators and assigns at such
times and place and in such manner and form as is hereinafter mentioned declared and
appointed for Payment thereof and for divers other good causes and considerations
We the said Francis Saint John Hunt Wath granted bargained sold aliened released and
confirmed and by these presents Doth grant bargain and sell alien release and confirm unto
the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt (in their actual possession thereof now
being by virtue of a bargain and sale to them thereof made for one whole year by the said
Francis Saint John Hunt by Indenture bearing date the day next before the day of the date of
these presents and duly executed before the signing and sealing hereof And by force of the
Statute made for transferring uses into possession) and to their Heirs and Assigns
All that undivided share or third [3rd] part of him the said Francis Saint John Hunt of and in

To have and to hold all such and so much and all such part and parts of the said messuage
of tenement and farm and all and Singular other the Hereditaments and Premises herein and
hereby granted bargained and released mentioned or intended so to be as are or be freehold
or charterhold with their and every of their Rights Members and appurtenances unto the said
James Hunt and their Heirs and their Assigns
To the sole only proper and absolute use and behoof of the said James Hunt party hereto and
Thomas Hunt and of their Heirs and Assigns for ever to take as Tenants in common and not
as joint tenants and to and for no other use behoof intent or purpose whatsoever upon this
express condition nevertheless and it is true intent of these presents and of the parties hereto
That they the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt or one of them their or some
or one of their Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns
Do and shall well and truly pay or cause to be paid unto the Francis Saint John Hunt or his
Assigns in or at his now Dwelling House Situate in Reepham aforesaid weekly and every
week for and during the Term of the natural Life of him the said Francis Saint John Hunt the
weekly sum of seven [7] shillings of lawful money of Great Britain free and clear of and
from all and all manner of Taxes Charges Deductions or Incumbrances whatsoever the first
of which Weekly payments to begin and be made on or upon the sixth [6th] day of this
Instant November and the other payments to succeed accordingly
Provided always and in case the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt or either
of them or either of their Heirs Executors Administrators or Assigns
Do or shall at any time or times hereafter neglect or refuse to pay the said weekly sum of
seven [7 ] shillings unto the said Francis Saint John Hunt or his Assigns for and during the
natural Life of the said Francis Saint John Hunt in manner and form aforesaid
Or in case the said weekly payment shall at any time be in arrear or unpaid (although the
same shall not be demanded) That then and thenceforth it shall and may be lawful to and for
the said Francis Saint John Hunt his Heirs and Assigns into all and Singular the said
Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and Premises hereby granted and released and
�every or any part or parcel thereof with their appurtenances in the name of the whole to
reenter and the same to have again retain repossess and reenjoy as in his and their first and
former Estate untill
We the said Francis Saint John Hunt or his Assigns shall be paid the said Weekly sum of
seven [7] shillings and all arrears thereof together with all costs of Suit attending the
recovery of the same anything herein contained to the contrary thereof in any wise
notwithstanding
And the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt do and each of them doth hereby
for themselves their Heirs Executors Administrators and Assigns Covenant Promise Grant
and agree to and with the said Francis Saint John Hunt his Executors Administrators and
Assigns in manner and form following (that is to say) That they the said James Hunt party
hereto and Thomas Hunt or one of them their or some or one of their Executors
Administrators or assigns shall and will weekly and every week for and during the said term
of the natural Life of the said Francis Saint John Hunt well and truly pay or cause to be paid
unto the said Francis Saint John Hunt and his assigns the aforesaid weekly sum of seven [7]
shillings per week at such Days times and place and in such manner and form as is
hereinbefore limitted declared and appointed for payment thereof
And also that they the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heirs and
assigns shall and will at their own costs and charges from time to time and at all times
during the natural Life of the said Francis Saint John Hunt support uphold maintain and
keep the Messuages Tenements and Hereditaments herein and hereby granted and released
or mentioned or intended so to be in good and Tenantable repair and condition and the said
Francis Saint John Hunt for the considerations aforesaid doth hereby for himself his Heirs
Executors and Administrators Covenant Promise Grant and Agree to and with the said
James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heirs and assigns in manner following (that
is to say)
That We the said Francis Saint John Hunt and his Heirs the said Messuages Lands
Tenements Hereditaments and Premises herein and hereby granted and released or
mentioned or intended so to be with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said
James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heirs and assigns (Subject to the Annuity
aforesaid) against him the said Francis Saint John Hunt and his Heirs and against all and
every person and persons whomsoever claiming or to claim by from or under him them or
any of them shall and will warrant and for ever Defend by these presents
And also that he the said Francis Saint John Hunt and his Heirs shall and will immediately
well and sufficiently and in due form of Law Surrender convey and assure or cause or
procure to be Surrendered conveyed and assured
All such parts and so much of the said Messuages Lands Hereditaments and premises as one
or be Copyhold or of Customary Tenure with their and every of their rights members and
appurtenances out of his and their Hands into the Hands of the Lord or Lords Lady or
�Ladies according to the custom or customs of the Manor or Manors whereof the same are to
be respectively holden
To the only and absolute use and behoof of the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas
Hunt their Heirs and Assigns for ever at the Will of the Lord or Lords Lady or Ladies
according to the custom or customs of the Manor or Manors whereof the same premises are
or to be holden Subject Nevertheless to the provisoe and condition hereinbefore contained
for the payment of the said annuity or weekly sum of seven [7] shillings per week to the said
Francis Saint John Hunt and his Assigns for and during the Term of his natural Life in such
manner and form and at such Days times and place as is hereinbefore mentioned and
expressed for payment thereof And that in the mean time and untill such Surrenders
Conveyances and Assurances of the said Copyhold or Customaryhold premises shall be had
made and passed
We the said Francis Saint John Hunt and all and every other person and Persons now Seized
of the same and his and their Heirs shall and will stand and be Seized by the same
In Trust only to and for the Sole only and absolute use and behoof of the said James Hunt
party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heirs and Assigns for ever Subject Nevertheless to the
Proviso and Condition aforesaid
And also that it shall and may be lawful to and for the said James Hunt party hereto and
Thomas Hunt their Heirs and Assigns paying the aforesaid weekly sum of seven [7]
shillings per week unto him the said Francis Saint John Hunt during the term of his natural
Life from time to time and at all times hereafter quietly and peaceably to enter into have
hold use occupy possess and enjoy all every the said Messuages Lands Tenements
Hereditaments and premises above mentioned or intended to be hereby granted bargained
sold and Released and covenanted to be Surrendered and every part thereof with their
appurtenances and the Rents Issues and Profits thereof to have receive take and enjoy to and
for their and each of their own use and Benefit from the tenth [10th] day of October now last
past without any of the lawful Let Suit Trouble Denial Eviction Interruption Molestation or
Disturbance of from or by him the said Francis Saint John Hunt his Heirs Executors and
Administrators or Assigns or any other person or persons whomsoever claiming or to claim
by from or under him them or any of them freed and absolutely discharged of from and
against all and all manner of Titles Charges and Incumbrances whatsoever One Indenture of
Mortgage bearing date on or about the firth [5th] day of July one thousand seven hundred
and eighty [1780] and made or mentioned to be made between the said Hannah Hunt
deceased James Hunt Thomas Hunt and Francis Saint John Hunt parties hereto and thereto
of the first part John Leeds of Hackford aforesaid Draper and Grocer of the second part and
the Reverend Richard Priest of the third part by their additions therein named the Ancient
and Accustomed Rents and Services from henceforth to grow due and payable for the
copyhold part of the said premises only excepted and foreprized
And Lastly that He the said Francis Saint John Hunt and his Heirs and all and every other
person and persons whosoever lawfully claiming or to claim any Estate Right Title or
Interest in Possession Reversion Remainder or otherwise of in to or out of the said
�Messuages Lands Tenements Hereditaments and premises herein and hereby granted and
release or mentioned or intended so to be and covenanted to be Surrendered by from or
under him them or any of them shall and will from time to time and at all times hereafter at
the request Costs and charges of the said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their
Heirs and Assigns make Do acknowledge levy execute and suffer or cause or procure to be
made Done acknowledged levied executed and suffered all and every such further and other
lawful and reasonable Act and Acts Thing and Things Deeds Devices Conveyances
Surrenders and Assurances in the Law whatsoever for the further better more perfect and
absolute Conveying and Assuming all and Singular the aforesaid Messuages Lands
Tenements Hereditaments and Premises with their and every of their Rights Members and
Appurtenances unto said James Hunt party hereto and Thomas Hunt their Heirs and Assigns
for ever (Subject Nevertheless to and with the payment of the said weekly sum of seven [7]

1) Information collected & edited by members of the Reepham Society & its History Group during 2004/5, as Reepham's contribution to the above project lead by The Forum. Since most information is included in other sections of Reepham Archive the documentation in this collection has not been digitised.
The project was web-based and was interactive, i.e. navigation was available through links to the various parts, and included an interactive map. The website is not now available online but traces of it appear via the 'Wayback Machine'.
2) Collection of scanned photographs on two CDs, selected for the Norfolk Heritage Explorations project in 2004/5 The majority are of modern Reepham & there are duplicates. Most were taken by Chris Peakome & Kate Nightingale. Several have already been itemised from other sources & a few appear in the early Reepham Life Calendars.

1) Information collected & edited by members of the Reepham Society & its History Group during 2004/5, as Reepham's contribution to the above project lead by The Forum. Since most information is included in other sections of Reepham Archive the documentation in this collection has not been digitised.
The project was web-based and was interactive, i.e. navigation was available through links to the various parts, and included an interactive map. The website is not now available online but traces of it appear via the 'Wayback Machine'.
2) Collection of scanned photographs on two CDs, selected for the Norfolk Heritage Explorations project in 2004/5 The majority are of modern Reepham & there are duplicates. Most were taken by Chris Peakome & Kate Nightingale. Several have already been itemised from other sources & a few appear in the early Reepham Life Calendars.

Description
An account of the resource
Very poor image of the chapel that stood in Fisher's Alley. (Included for historical reference.) Built in 1842 as a Baptist Chapel, later used by a Free Methodist group. After Methodist Union in 1935 it was used as a carpenter's workshop and later the meeting place of the Good Companions social group. Two houses called Companion Cottages now stand on the site. One of the stained glass windows from the original chapel can be seen from Fisher's Alley.

Description

Bawdeswell's church was the only Norfolk village parish church to be destroyed in World War II. In 1944 an RAF Mosquito returning from a raid over Germany crashed into the church causing extensive damage to the church and nearby buildings.
