Reepham Fire Tender burnt out on Buxton Heath

3 May 1958:
At 15:04 a fire was reported on Hevingham Heath, soon to be corrected to Buxton Heath. Reepham Fire Station confirmed at 15:07 that Fire Tender Major, PAH 795, had left the Station with Sub Officer Seals in charge. At 15:33 a stop message was sent. This indicated that sufficient manpower and appliances were on scene to deal with the incident. A fire engine from the Forestry Commission was also at the Heath. At 15:59 Officer Seals reported the fire was spreading rapidly and requested assistance from two more engines. Tenders were sent out from Norwich and Aylsham. at 16:02 Officer Seals reported that the water tender from Reepham had exploded.

Officers would have had to find a telephone box or house nearby with a telephone to make these reports to HQ.
This event was previously referred to as the Hevingham Heath fire.
