The land surrounded by a brick wall which currently makes up the driveway and north garden of the house Moorcroft (on The Moor) was, I've been told, a place to keep animals overnight before market. So I guess another pound? In the 1960s it was used to dry fireman's hoses which were at the time made from canvas.
The Woods moved to Moorcroft in 1950. John Wood (d 2017) was a respected vet who, though retired, was still working in the 1990s - and riding on a massive horse to shop in the Market Place.
